The Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Cultural Section of the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto, was established in 1976. The current premises have a historical value, they belong to the Italian Government and are located near the campus of the University of Toronto.

We are a centre for cultural and academic activities, a school of Italian language and civilization, a source of information about contemporary Italy, its regions and its multilayered cultural heritage as well as a venue for art exhibitions, lectures, films, and video screenings.

Students choose the Institute because:

  • in Toronto and in Vaughan we offer a variety of courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels;

  • our courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages set by the Council of Europe;

  • we offer special interest courses on, for instance, business, stylistics, grammar, conversation and culture;

  • Our teachers are highly qualified native speakers of Italian;

  • Small groups: minimum 6 to maximum 13 students from age 16 to senior;

  • Students can participate in the cultural events organized by the IIC;

  • Students have free access to the Institute's library and movies

  • Certificates of proficiency can be issued upon request;

  • Students can benefit from various scholarships offered by language schools in Italy;

  • The Institute is the only place in Toronto where the Certification of Italian Proficiency exams (esami CILS) are held. This certification is officially recognized by the European Unionn.
